Job Description

The Student Assistant will assist with clerical, marketing, program and event planning, and accessibility projects for the Disability Cultural Center. SA’s are expected to promote an atmosphere of professionalism and to be courteous and helpful to all with whom they have contact. They will collaborate closely with staff in the LGBTQ Resource Center, The Women’s Center, and the Center for Multicultural Equity and Access. 

 

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Clerical

  • Welcome students into the Disability Cultural Center and Office of Student Equity and Inclusion, answer their questions, and provide resources as appropriate

  • Take shifts at the welcome desk of the Office of Student Equity and Inclusion, creating a welcoming environment for diverse populations 

  • Answer and direct phone calls

  • Answer requests for information

  • Manage Disability Cultural Center email accounts

Marketing

  • Maintain social media pages

  • Update and distribute weekly newsletters

  • Create event graphics and marketing materials

  • Communicate with other departments and organizations to publicize events 

  • Create engaging and accessible content for social media pages

Program and Event Support

  • Create and plan innovative and accessible programming for students 

  • Set up and break down programs and events

  • Make room reservations for events

  • Promote event marketing materials

  • Assist with planning programs and events

  • Create events on CampusGroups and website

  • Demonstrate ability to work self-motivated and self-directed

  • Collaborate with a diverse team

  • Attend Disability Cultural Initiative events in-person, and some Women’s Center, LGBTQ Center, and CMEA events, sometimes held on nights or weekends 

  • Be familiar with accessible best practices for event planning, programming, and communications  

  • Be familiar with Canva, Mailchimp, Campus Groups, Google forms, Wordpress or willing to learn

  • Be familiar with GIS or maps, or willing to learn

  • Be committed to creating a space where students are welcome and included
